- His start was in literature and theatre as well as Fine Arts, and he had some productions in theatrical Arts such as composing, directing, and decorating.
- He finished his primary and intermediate school in Musul, and completed his secondary school in Baghdad 1939 – at Al Markazyia High school.
- Joined the Friends of Art Committee in Baghdad 1941.
- Taught Art at Al Hilah High School in Al Hilah - Iraq, as well as the Teachers Centre in Baquba until 1945.
- Completed his Bachelor degree at the College of Fine Arts – Painting Department in Cairo – Egypt 1950.
- Went to Rome to continue his post graduate, and got the highest certificate in Art from the Academy of Fine Arts /Painting department in 1954 with the highest degree of honour.
- Returned to Baghdad and taught drawing in the Institute of Fine Arts, afterwards in the Academy of Fine Arts – Baghdad University, which he was one of the founders and establishers of it.
- He participated in graduating many generations, and remarkable Artists.
- Supervised originating and restructuring the academic curriculum in fine Arts - Academy of Fine Arts, Baghdad University, as well as many academic achievements.
- Joined Baghdad Contemporary Art group in 1954 and continued with them.
- One of the main founders of the Iraqi Artists Committee. In addition to that he was a member of honour in this committee since it was established in 1956 until the end of his days.
- Taught free hand drawing in the Architectural Department – College of Engineering / Baghdad University for many years.
- Participated in more than sixty exhibitions inside and outside the country (personal and joint) such as :
- Ibn Sena joint Exhibition in 1950
- Institute of Fine Arts /Baghdad. - Many Artistic exhibitions representing Iraq abroad.
- Most of the joint exhibitions in Iraq.
- Many personal exhibitions in Iraq as well as Cairo and Beirut.
- His last personal exhibition was in 1984 at Baghdad Gallery for Contemporary Art, which was an honouring event patronized by the Ministry of Culture in Baghdad. - Participated in many Academic and Artistic organizing committees such as the Baghdad first biennially.
- His Art work exists in many official organizations such as; Baghdad University, many Iraqi Ministries, Baghdad airport, and many Art galleries and Museums. In addition to that his Art work travelled around the world.
- He authored a specialized book in Fine Arts (The Elements of Art) printed in Italy by Dolphin Publishing Company in 1984, in two parts in Arabic language, which became a fundamental reference for Art seekers and students.
- Worked as an Art Professor in the Academy of Fine Arts / Baghdad University for years, and headed the department of plastic Art, as well as Deputy Dean for many terms.
- He has been contemporary with the Iraqi Art through its different phases starting with the pre pioneers period which took place before the revolution in 1958.
- Faraj Abbo experienced number of methods, schools and techniques in his Art. His main concern was to interpret the Iraqi reality and life through his Art .And he was well known for his most remarkable Artistic style which was the Islamic Abstraction, in addition to the Classic, Abstract, and Impressionist styles.
- Faraj Abbo searched the Arabic and Islamic Art and described its elements in his Art work characterizing the ethics of the Iraqi environment.
- • Got married from Mrs. Shakey Agob Movsesian, an Iraqi lady with Armenian origins in 1960 and had three kids (Amal the eldest daughter is married and living in Los Angeles USA, she has two sons George and Mouwafaq Peter Gharib. The second daughter Shetha is living in Doha – Qatar, and the youngest son Faris is married and living in Los Angeles, he has one son Christopher Michel and one daughter Dillana Shakey).
- Faraj Abbo died in Baghdad in the 5th of March 1984, due to fatal illness.
- الفنان العراقي فرج عبو آلنعمان ولد الفنان فرج عبو في مدينة الموصل – العراق في 21 نوفمبرعام 1921 . وقد ظهرت موهبته المتميزة وأهتماماته الفنية منذ نعومة اظفاره ، حيث زينت رسوماته ومنحوتاته الفنية المبكرة بعض كنائس الموصل القديمة مثل كنيسة مار أشعيا ( عام 1936).
- ارتبطت نشأته بالأدب والمسرح بالاضافة للفن ، حيث عمل في مجال التأليف والاخراج ، والديكور المسرحي.
- أكمل دراسته الابتدائية والمتوسطة في الموصل ، وأما المرحلة الاعدادية فأكملها في بغداد عام 1939 في الاعدادية المركزية.
- أنتمى الى جمعية اصدقاء الفن عام 1941 .
- قام بتدريس الفن الرسم في ثانوية الحلة ، ودار المعلمين في بعقوبة لغاية عام 1945. • سافر الى القاهرة لاكمال دراسته ، وتخرج من كلية الفنون الجميلة – قسم التصوير عام 1950 .
- قام بتدريس الرسم في ثانوية الاعظمية منذ عام 1950 والى منتصف عام 1952 .
- سافر الى روما لاستكمال الدراسات العليا ، والتحق باكاديمية الفنون الجميلة وتخرج من قسم الرسم حيث حصل على أعلى مؤهل في الاختصاص بدرجة الشرف الاعلى سنة 1954.
- عاد الى بغداد ليقوم بالتدريس في معهد الفنون الجميلة ، ومن ثم في أكاديمية الفنون الجميلة – جامعة بغداد ، حيث كان أحد ابرز المساهمين في انشائها وارساء دعائمها الاكاديمية.
- ساهم بتخريج دفعات عديدة من الطلبة المتميزين في مجال الفن التشكيلي.
- كما أشرف على بناء و أعادة صياغة المناهج للدراسات الاولية و الدراسات العليا في القسم التشكيلي في أكاديمية الفنون الجميلة – جامعة بغداد ، وله عدة أنجازات أكاديمية متميزة في هذا المجال.
- التحق بجماعة بغداد للفن الحيث منذ عام 1954 و ظل مستمرا معها.
- عضو مؤسس لجمعية الفنانين العراقيين. وهو عضو شرف فيها منذ تأسيسها عام 1956.
- درس مادة التخطيط الحر في القسم المعماري – كلية الهندسة – جامعة بغداد لسنوات عديدة.
- أقام وشارك في أكثر من ستين معرضاً فنياً، منها معارض شخصية و أخرى مشتركة في داخل القطر و خارجه كان ابرزها :
- معرض ابن سينا المشترك الذي اقيم في معهد الفنون الجميلة عام 1950.
- العديد من المعارض التشكيلية المشتركة المقامة داخل القطر.
- معظم المعارض التشكيلية الوطنية المقامة خارج القطر.
- أقام العديد من المعارض الشخصية في بغداد ،و القاهرة،و بيروت.
- أقامت وزارة الثقافة و الاعلام معرضاً تكريمياً شخصياً له عام 1984 في قاعة الفن الحديث ببغداد، وكان آخر معرضا شخصياً له حضره قبل وفاته. - شارك في العديد من اللجان العلمية الاكاديمية ، و التنظيمية الفنية . و منها اللجنة التنظيمية لبينالي بغداد الاول.
- له العديد من الاعمال الفنية في عدد من الدوائرالرسمية، و الوزارات، و جامعة بغداد ، و مطار بغداد الدولي ، و المتاحف الفنية و قاعات العرض. كما انتشرت اعماله الفنية في عدد من دول العالم.
- له كتاب منهجي مؤلف بجزئين بعنوان ( علم عناصر الفن ) طبع في ايطاليا عام 1982 ( شركة دلفين للطباعة والنشر ) ، و يعتبرمرجعا أصيلاً في مجال عناصر الفن باللغة العربية.
- عمل أستاذا للفن في أكاديمية الفنون الجميلة جامعة بغداد ، و ترأس القسم التتشكيلي لعدد من السنوات ، كذلك شغل منصب العمادة بالانابة عدة مرات.
- عاصر مختلف مراحل الفن العراقي وذلك قبل مرحلة الرواد و هي مرحلة تبلورت سماتها قبل ثورة عام 1958.
- تعددت المراحل والتجارب الفنية التي مر بها الفنان الرائد فرج عبو ، و كان همه الكبير ترجمة الواقع العراقي و مزاوجته بالاصول الاكاديمية للفن و أساليبه المتنوعة . و من أساليبه المتميزة أضافة للمدرسة الكلاسيكية و الانطباعية ، الاسلوب التجريدي و التجريد الاسلامي، حيث ينتمي في أبحاثه الى التراث العربي الاسلامي مجسدا بذالك جماليات البيئة و الواقع العراقي.
- • تزوج من السيدة شاكيه أكوب موفسيسيان، وهي سيدة عراقية ذات اصول ارمنية عام 1960، وانجبا ثلاثة اولاد ( الإبنة الكبرى آمال متزوجة و مقيمة في لوس انجلس – أمريكا و لديها إبنان جورج و بيتر موفق غريب ، الوسطى شذى مقيمة في الدوحة - قطر ، والابن الاصغر فارس متزوج و مقيم في لوس انجلس وله إبن كرستوفر مايكل، وأبنة ديلانا شاكيه ) .
- توفي فرج عبو في بغداد في الخامس من مارس عام 1984 على أئر مرض عضال.
